ems

Yesterday we watched a session of Conference and had dinner with my family. Before dinner, James discovered some M&M's in a bowl on the counter and just had to have some (and man were they delicious!).

When dinnertime rolled around, we were all talking up the delicious chicken pot pie to try to get him to try it (he doesn't realize how much he'd like things if he'd only give them a try!). After sitting there for a minute looking at his food (but not trying it), he looked up at me and said, "Ems?"

The kid wanted M&M's for dinner! And man he was convincing. He looked up at me with those big, beautiful eyes and the sweetest look on his face, and softly grabbed my hand with his little hand. With a sweet little sad voice he repeated over and over again..."Ems???"

Needless to say, I caved and he had a few ems with his dinner. BUT he DID lick the chicken pot pie, so we're makin' progress... :)

Victories of Mommyhood

My child ate applesauce!

I know this may not seem so amazing, but seriously, it is! My kid is such a picky eater. His entire food repertoire consists of graham crackers and milk, apple juice, Gerber oatmeal, grapes, graham crackers and milk (yes this is his favorite), chicken nuggets and mashed potatoes. Ok, ok, so there ARE more things he will eat, but sometimes it seems like he won't eat ANYTHING. And yes, he used to eat applesauce all the time when he was a baby, so I have no idea why he wouldn't eat it for ages.

But today, he ate it! And he liked it! I made it into a game and we said "1, 2, 3!" and put our spoons (full of applesauce) in our mouths as fast as we could. He was hesitant at first, but once he got a tiny lick of it he said, "Mmmmm!" I am so happy. It's funny the things that make you happy when you are a mommy :)

Now onto veggies...

an apple a day...

I am always trying to get James to eat more fruits and vegetables (a difficult task for any mother of a toddler) - lately I have been trying to get him to eat apples. So I'll give him apple slices and he just will NOT eat them (even though he loves apple juice). Well last night I walked into the room and James and his Daddy were eating an apple (whole), taking turns taking bites. I couldn't believe it! So I tried it today, and sure enough, he took tons of bites! What a funny boy - I actually think it may be because it is shaped like a ball - this kid LOVES balls. He calls grapes "balls" and sometimes gets mad when I cut them in half, because then they don't look like a ball anymore. If I put the halves back together, then he'll eat it. Go figure! It reminds me of my brother - when he was little, we could get him to eat ANYTHING if we told him it tasted like hot dogs. Aren't kids funny?
