On Being Brave
Overall, James has been a champ during this whole move.
Always smiling, eager to explore our new surroundings and be our little buddy.
But moving to a whole new place can be scary!
Last Sunday morning we were talking about going to church at our new ward. James was not so sure about it. He wasn't so sure about going to a new nursery class with a new teacher (and oh boy, how he loved his nursery teacher in our old ward!)
One of James' favorite things to do is to think of ideas. "Mommy, I have some ideas!" He names all of his "ideas" of fun things to do as he holds up a finger for each. Last Sunday he said, "I have some ideas. We could......not go to church...."
As we drove to our new ward building, James told us to "turn around!"
We pulled into the parking lot and he folded his arms across his seat belt. "It's a gate!" he said.
So we talked about being brave.
We talked about being a brave boy and going to his new class, even if he was nervous.
And oh man, he was such a brave boy! He marched right into that nursery class and didn't look back.
He was a champ the whole time and just loved it.
I am so proud of my brave boy!
Today he has been talking a lot about our "old house" and about wanting to go home. He said, "I want to go to Jukie's house - please??" How do explain 1300 miles to a little guy? He was hesitant again before church today, but after sacrament meeting when I asked if he wanted to go to nursery, he said "Yeah!" without hesitation.
That's my brave boy!

Feeling good
No matter how tired, grumpy or sick James is feeling at any one time (he has had a little cold the past couple of days), if we make any mention of him being sleepy or sick, suddenly this big smile pops up on his face, and he miraculously is "all better" or "not sleepy anymore!" He thinks that the smile is proof that he doesn't need a nap. I think that it's pretty darn cute. I wish I could change a grumpy attitude into a big smile that quickly! What a champ.
But he still needs to take a nap, regardless of how cute he is ;)

Earlier I asked him if he was a little sick, and he said (with a big grin), "No! The juice feeled me better!"

our month in review
What a month it has been!
First, we packed up our entire apartment.
James, of course, was a big help. He would often say, "I'm packin' for Taxes!" and would have a few small toys packed in a little box. He also measured everything in sight with Daddy's measuring tape, and when asked how long anything was, he would reply, "one-twelve!"
It sometimes got boring when Mommy and Daddy were just going through boxes all day, but we found plenty of fun things to do, including coloring on Mommy's and Daddy's wedding announcements (we found a box with at least a hundred of them). Don't we look nice?
James was a BIG help in packing up the car to take things over to our storage unit.
We took a packing break at Arctic Circle and somehow convinced James to try his first ice cream ever. He quite enjoyed it but has not had any since.
And he got to play at his first play-place.
We had a great Gibbons gathering at Liberty Park, where we ate food, visited and played frisbee. Ryan taught everyone how to rope, and showed off his amazing roping skills (Josh ran away as fast as he could, and Ryan somehow managed to rope his foot!)
We loved seeing Max and Brooke, who recently had returned from their year in Jerusalem and are headed off for all kinds of other adventures!
We spent lots of time with family, especially since we lived with my parents for a couple of weeks. James got in LOTS of quality Jukie & Bapa time! Abby and Ryan came over a lot, too.
James has awesome dance moves.
We took a little trip to Provo to visit Abby and Ryan and to see their new apartment. Abby cooked us a delicious dinner and we had lots of fun. James sure will miss Aunt Abby and Uncle Ryan! Here he is looking at spiders with Ryan.
We had a wonderful Boster family reunion! Everyone came to Utah and we spent the whole weekend together. We had a fun run at Sugarhouse Park, made zucchini boats (or, "pini boats" as James calls them), took some fun family pictures and just had fun being together.
James was sure proud of his pini boat!
We had a sweet visit with my Gibbons grandparents. Isn't my Grandma gorgeous? We were both wearing red shoes and thought we needed a picture!!
Josh got ordained an Elder. I can't believe how grown up he is - and he is starting college at BYU this week!
We also had a nice visit with Grandma Glenn - who is pretty special to us since we lived with her for over a year. She sure will miss James, and we will miss her too!
James was SO excited about his little backpack I got for him for the LONG trip to Texas. In it were lots of fun treats and toys to play with in the car. Pulling out a new toy every couple of hours or so made it last almost the entire trip!
We loaded up the Uhaul with the help of our Elders Quorum, my Dad and brother and some of Jonathan's brothers. Thanks for moving our piano, guys!! :)
And we drove!
My parents drove the Uhaul and we drove our car. We left at 4 in the morning and drove ALL day...
James had lots of fun and was a CHAMP. He never complained once!
We finally stopped around 6 pm in Roswell, New Mexico. We didn't see any aliens, but practically got attacked by hundreds of grasshoppers - creepy!!
We stayed in a nice hotel that reminded me of the movie What's Up Doc? - don't you think??
We got up early again and drove...
...and drove some more...
....and finally got into Texas!
I love my boy with his sticky-up morning hair.
We got to San Antonio around 4 pm. That is a lot of driving!! We were so happy to be here and to have a place all ready to move into - thanks to the help of our wonderful friends Jay and Lindsay who looked at apartments for us! Our new Elders Quorum came and had our truck unloaded in about thirty minutes. We were so grateful!
Mom & Dad were amazing helps moving into our new place. Bapa helped James put away all his toys and books in his new room!
They also discovered a little park right next to our house, where they walked every day. James and I have continued going there every day and he just loves it! Bapa taught him how to draw maps in the dirt with sticks, and it is pretty much the funnest thing ever.

And then visited the main campus of his school - it is just gorgeous! Old brick buildings, huge trees, etc.

On my parents' last night in town we ate at a great Mexican restaurant called Pico de Gallo. James was pretty sleepy when we got there...
...but soon got his second wind! The musician saw him dancing to the music and let him join in! So cute.
We visited the gorgeous River Walk...
...and the Alamo. What a fun (and hot) night!
Since settling in, my boys and I have already visited the San Antonio Zoo, which we loved! We are so glad we got a family membership, so we can go back whenever we want. James loved all the animals. We especially loved the aquarium and other indoor exhibits because they were air-conditioned! :)
Well, that just about wraps up this entirely too-long but necessary so I could catch up post! :) Life is good and we love San Antonio and our new place...
...and we are enjoying our last couple of days of "freedom" before Jonathan starts school Monday, after which we will probably not see him so often! He will be busy reading these.......
