Here is our happy little boy having some fun tummy time. He totally wants to crawl and move all around, but doesn't get yet that he needs to push up with his arms and bring his knees under himself - so now he kind of just "swims" - it is so cute!


Last night James was standing on my tummy and we were playing, and then all of a sudden he just leaned his head down on me like this, it was so funny. I guess he thought it was comfortable...


And then all of a sudden, he kind of jumped up and kicked his legs in the air! It was hilarious. What an acrobatic little boy!

called to serve...

Yesterday my sister Liz received her mission call! She came home from Provo to open it and our whole family was there, it was really neat. She is going to the Washington, Seattle Mission and will enter the MTC on August 6th. We are so proud of you, Liz! You will make an amazing missionary. We will sure miss you, but will send TONS of pictures of the boy. :)

Now we will have two family missionaries out - Liz in Washington, and Jonathan's brother Jared in New Zealand.

I was up late last night chatting with one of my very best friends, Janina, online (love ya, Janina!) - it was so much fun! I sure miss her!! When I was done I went into the bedroom where my boys were sleeping, and I found this...


I had left a whole bunch of baby stuff on the bed, like James' car seat, a big box of diapers, etc. - and Jonathan was so sleepy he just kinda found a little corner to sleep on. Poor guy! It looked so funny though, I just had to take a picture. He is such a great guy, he is so patient with me, even when I am not the cleanest person ever (I am SO working on it!)

Then I went and checked on our little guy and he looked so darn cute, I had to take a picture of him, too. I think that watching babies sleep has got to be one of the best things ever, because they look so sweet and cute.

James is growing SO fast, he has been wearing some clothes that are 6 and even 9 month size!!! I can't believe it. Today I tried this shirt on him, for fun, and it was only a little big on him, I couldn't believe it! He just looked like a little boy to me, instead of a baby! He is so cute. The reason why he looks SO tired in this picture is because he hardly slept today at all! He's teething and he just won't sleep for any length of time. Poor kid!

Today we went and watched Uncle Josh run in a track meet. It was pretty windy and cold outside, so I bundled up the boy, and then I decided to try on his shoes! He has these cute shoes that my sisters gave him, and he had never worn them before. They were SO CUTE! I just love this picture, and I think it is funny how big he looks, with his feet totally hanging off the end of the car seat.

The BIG news for this week is that James cut his first TOOTH! He has been drooling a TON lately, but still, we were so surprised! He is pretty young to be getting teeth, so it was kind of random. My Mom discovered it during graduation on Thursday. I think he is working on the 2nd "chopper" now, so he is kind of fussy and in pain, poor kid. Here is a (kind of blurry) picture - you can kind of see the white tooth. What a big boy!

We had a great weekend - Jonathan graduated from BYU! He graduated with his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. I am so proud of my husband, he is such a hard worker and a smart guy, and I really admire the fact that he loves learning so much. This semester he has been working full-time and going to school full-time, and it has been pretty exhausting for him. I am so grateful for all he does for our little family! I'm so proud of you, Babe!



On Thursday was the big Commencement ceremony in the Marriott Center, and it was fun to hear Elder Bednar speak. Jonathan's parents and two of his sisters drove down on Thursday morning, and it was so fun to have them there and to have them stay with us! James did really well during the long day, but by the time Commencement was over he was SO sleepy! We had a cute little cap and gown for him to wear that Jonathan's Mom made for Kathleen and Jeff's first baby awhile back, and they sent it to us a few months ago! He looked SO cute in it, despite the fact that he was VERY tired and crying pretty hard - it actually made for some pretty funny pictures.

We enjoyed going out to eat with the Bosters and spending the evening with them at our house. It is so fun to have them come to town, we sure miss them!

On Friday was the Convocation ceremony when Jonathan got to walk across the stage! It was fun because my sister Liz also graduated, and she was in the same college as Jonathan, so they both walked at the same ceremony. Liz graduated magna cum laude in Biophysics, we are so proud of her! Liz you are so smart, we love ya!


James was a little more fussy during that ceremony and I had to take him out a few times, but by the time it was over and we were taking pictures, he was totally asleep - I was so glad I brought his little carrier so I could carry him around easily and he could sleep better. Here is our little family (with sleepy, sleepy son) after Daddy graduated!


On Friday we went out to eat with my family and had tons of fun - it was so fun to have such a great weekend and to be able to spend lots of time with both of our families! We love them so much!

random happenings and goings-on

Just some miscellaneous pictures of (who else) our adorable little boy!

James was 'plum tuckered' after a long trip to Provo, his first birthday party he's been invited to and just a long day in general - good thing Aunt Abby was there for a nice cuddle! After Henry's birthday party we got to visit with three of James' aunts in Provo for a little while (and he is now very excited that two of those aunts now live a block away from us!)


James and his Grandpa Gibbons are buds and love to hang out together. Some new recent favorite activities include "blanket tricks" (a Gibbons family favorite) and watching baby shows on On Demand (which mainly consist of moving shapes and colors set to music - wooooh, how exciting!). Here they are just hanging out, watching Unkins Josh play the Wii. What great buds, and they kind of look alike, too! On Sunday, a man in our ward asked my Mom if James and his Grandpa have the same barber...


With the weather getting a little warmer (at least off and on), we decided to try out some summer attire - here is little James in his first pair of board shorts.

a new buddy for James

One of the perks of being a parent to a very small child is that you get to pick their friends for them! And, since you can choose your kids' friends, why not pick the children of your best friends to be friends with your child? I know that I, personally, have planned with some of my best friends that our children will be friends someday. In junior high and high school, Cheryl and I planned that we would live next to each other and our kids would be friends and we'd buy them cute clothes from Old Navy, or something like that (can't remember all the details - can you, Cher??) And Janina and I definitely had/have some plans up our sleeves for our kids meeting up at BYU or somewhere and, of course, being best friends - how could they not?? :)

Well, a couple of weeks ago we got to hang out with our good friends, Charles and Melissa, and their son Henry! It was Henry's first birthday and we got to go to his birthday party (well, we actually kind of missed the party, but still got to visit with them for a little while and give him his present - long story short, Jonathan got stuck in a lame final while James and I waited in the car, and so we ended up being a couple of hours late...) How fun to see these boys together, and especially to see Jonathan and Charles (who grew up in the same ward, and who were roommates in college) with their sons! Wow, we sure are getting old!

Any resemblance?

I was going through some folders on the computer today, and I came upon this cute picture of Jonathan as a little boy. This is one of my FAVORITE pictures of him, but I hadn't looked at it for quite awhile. When I saw it today, I couldn't believe how much it looked like James! James' cheeks are a little rounder, but the eyes and the smile are TOTALLY the same. I can just see my little boy looking like this in a few years! What a cutie!
